Meeting Safely

There is no deadline. Chat as long as you need to feel comfortable — someone genuine will not mind. Be wary of anyone who pushes hard for an immediate meeting, pressures you to move the conversation to another app right away, or refuses to share recent photos of themselves.

Watch for the classic warning signs of a scam: requests for money, gift cards, or cryptocurrency; sob stories that end in a financial ask; profiles whose details keep changing. If money comes up, stop — no real date starts with a payment.

Anything you send — photos, videos, messages — can be saved and shared beyond your control, even when the app limits it technically. Share intimate content only with people you genuinely trust, and know that pressure to send it is itself a red flag. If someone records or saves your content and threatens to share it unless you pay (sextortion), do not pay: save the evidence, block, report them in the app, and consider reporting to the police.

Your exact position is never shown to other Filltr users. Distance is calculated on our servers from a deliberately coarsened position and shown only as an approximate figure — never closer than about 100 meters, and repeated checks cannot be combined to narrow it down.

A location you share in chat is different: that pin is the exact point you chose to send. Treat it like telling someone an address. Share your real-time whereabouts or home address only when you feel safe doing so — and never because the other person shared theirs first.

A shared location is also not proof of anything. Pins can be sent from anywhere and are sometimes used as bait. If a meeting point feels wrong — isolated, hard to leave, changed at the last minute — trust that feeling and do not go.

In some countries, being gay or bisexual is criminalized, and authorities are known to use dating apps to identify and entrap people. Research local laws before you travel, and think carefully about what is on your profile and in your chats when you are there.

In countries with such laws, Filltr automatically stops showing your distance to others. That reduces one risk — it does not remove them all. When in doubt, meet only through people and organizations you already trust.

Meet in a public place for the first time — a café, a bar, somewhere with people around, ideally LGBTQ+-friendly. Tell a friend who you are meeting, where, and when you expect to check in, and actually check in.

Stay in control of how you get there and how you get home. Keep your phone charged, keep an eye on your drink, and go easy on alcohol — you make your best decisions sober. Do not accept drinks or substances from someone you just met.

Blocking on Filltr is immediate and mutual: you disappear from each other completely, and the chat is removed for both sides. Reporting a profile or a message sends it to moderation review; serious reports lead to content being hidden and accounts being restricted or banned. Reports are confidential — the other person is not told who reported them.

If you are in immediate danger, call your local emergency number (112 across the EU) before anything else.
